Our Story - Why We Started the Farm
In 2008 our owner, Joseph Chammas, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He went through some conventional treatments, but decided to stop them early, as the treatments were devastating to his body and spirit. He then transformed his life overnight as he and his wife, Tawna, went raw vegan for three years, and within that time started growing their own organic food.
They purchased a five acre property, in Loxahatchee Groves, established their home, and started Gratitude Garden, by planting just a few raised beds. Within a year or two, their whole front and back yard was being used to grow organic foods. They converted a room in their house to grow wheatgrass and sprouts which were used as medicine, and also began growing different varieties of culinary and medicinal mushrooms. They left their old lives behind and started a new life, designing it the way that they wanted it to be. This was the beginning of their journey to create Gratitude Garden organic farm. Joseph and Tawna are truly passionate about growing medicinal herbs and plants, and creating products, that help both themselves and the community every day.
Your true passion and purpose in life usually stem from the pain you have endured and the challenges you have faced and overcome. Everyone will be dealt crappy cards at some point in their life, it is how you play those cards that truly matters.
